Giants' Posey increases running regimen

Catcher Buster Posey has added a more intense runningprogram to his rehab regimen, Giants head athletic trainer Dave Groeschner toldMLB.coms Chris Haft Monday.According to Haft, Posey mixed 30- and 60-yard sprints,agility drills and mild distance running into his routine three times per weekafter the new year began.Were just building him up right now, Groeschner told Haft. So far, so goodForJan. 9, hes doing pretty well.

Pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report to the Giants Spring Trainingfacility in Scottsdale, Arizona on Feb. 18.Soon after Posey was able to put weight on his leg, hestarted a light running program. His new regimen is more rigorous and the planis to start increasing baseball-specific drills as part of his workout plan. Haftwrites that in early February, Groeschner plans to have Posey turn corners tosimulate rounding bases.Posey has also resumed hitting off a tee three times a week,according to Haft, and is close to progressing to soft-toss hitting, followedby live batting practice.
