The Giants have purchased Brad Penny's contract from Triple-A Fresno, and to make space on the 40-man roster, have transferred left-handed pitcher Eric Surkamp to the 60-day disabled list.
Additionally, Shane Loux has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a neck strain.
The move is retroactive to Tuesday, June 26.

In order to accommodate Penny, Giants hitting coach Henry Muelens will change his jersey number from 31 to 37.
