SAN FRANCISCO -- The Giants optioned Mike Kickham to Triple-A Fresno Wednesday afternoon, the team announced on Twitter. No corresponding roster move has been announced.

Kickham, 24, was recalled on Tuesday and required to throw 94 pitches relieving Matt Cain in the Giants' 7-2 loss to the Mets on Wednesday.

"He threw real well there, then got some balls up the last couple innings," manager Bruce Bochy said of Kickham. "I think he's gotten better and better. He's using all his pitches more now and he has better command. He was locked in there for three innings. ... Overall, I thought Mike showed improvement today."

The left-hander is 0-3 with a 10.61 ERA in five appearances for the Giants this year.
