SARASOTA, Fla. -- It’s been a long, hard road to big league camp for Tim Alderson. And, that’s just this week.

Alderson, a 25-year-old former first-round pick of the San Francisco Giants, was planning to report to his first major league spring training camp on time. But, weather intervened.

The snow that blanketed Baltimore this week was the culprit, but Alderson lives in Phoenix and his flight to Tampa was canceled because the plane he was going to take was stuck in Charlotte.

“I was sitting there. It was 90 degrees, and I was trying to get through Charlotte, and it was all closed down,” Alderson said.

He went home, relaxed for a day and tried again on Friday and made it through Texas instead.

“It was quite the journey,” Alderson said. “It was a long day yesterday, lots of movies and hanging out.”
