Cardinals manager Mike Matheny has tasked Lance Lynn with the NLCS Game 1 starting responsibilities.

Chris Carpenter is slated to pitch in Game 2, followed by Kyle Lohse in Game 3 and Adam Wainwright in Game 4, according to the team website.

It will be the first career postseason start for Lynn, who has made 14 career playoff appearances and is 3-1 with a 4.30 ERA.

Lynn took the win in Game 2 of this year's NLDS against the Washington Nationals when he was required after Jamie Garcia's shoulder forced him out of the game after two innings.

Three different surgeons have independently offered a unanimous recommendation that Garcia undergo a debridement of his left shoulder, a procedure that would sideline him into the 2013 season.

Lynn, 25, had a team-high 18 wins to go along with seven losses and a 3.78 ERA in 29 stars for St. Louis this year. In his only start against the Giants, he took loss after allowing four earned runs over six innings.
