MLB reduces Bryce Harper's suspension

SAN FRANCISCO -- Major League Baseball chopped a game off Bryce Harper's suspension Wednesday and he'll begin serving, although it might not help the Giants tonight as much as you think. Harper, aside from an NLDS homer off Hunter Strickland that started this whole thing, hits worse at AT&T Park than at any other ballpark. He was 0 for 5 on Tuesday, striking out three times and leaving a career-high eight runners on base.

Harper's suspension was cut from four games to three, as first reported by Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports. He'll begin serving Wednesday night when the Nationals face Matt Cain and also miss two games against the A's this weekend. Hunter Strickland was suspended six games and also appealed. He has not yet heard back from Major League Baseball.

The Giants have dropped the first two games of a series they would rather forget. In addition to the Strickland suspension, the Giants lost Michael Morse to a concussion, suffered in the fight. They have scored three runs in two games, and now they face Max Scherzer, perhaps the best right-hander in the league.
