The Padres placed ace Andrew Cashner on the 15-day disabled list with elbow soreness, the team announced on Twitter Saturday afternoon.
Cashner, 27, started nine games this season and pitched 57.1 innings. The Padres right-hander has a 2.35 ERA with 47 strikeouts and 17 walks.
Cashner, who has never had elbow issues, joins the growing list of MLB pitchers to suffer arm injuries this year. Nineteen pitchers, including A's Jarrod Parker and A.J. Griffin, have already undergone Tommy John surgery this season.
