SAN FRANCISCO –- The Giants are going start to start with the current arrangement of Yusmeiro Petit in the rotation and Tim Lincecum in the bullpen.

Petit gave them no reason to change the plan when he beat the Colorado Rockies Thursday afternoon.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy confirmed that Petit will retain his place in the rotation and start Tuesday at Coors Field. In the meantime, Lincecum has thrown twice off a bullpen mound and pitching coach Dave Righetti found his form encouraging.

“That’s what I’m getting from Righetti,” Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. “He’s locating well, there’s little effort in his delivery, it’s cleaner, better balance, not falling off to his glove side. … But I would like to get him into a game to see where he’s at.”

Bochy said he wouldn’t hesitate to use Lincecum in leveraged situations as a short reliever, and would feel comfortable bringing him in to face lefty or right-handed hitters.

“Like in the (2012) postseason,” Bochy said. “I like him in that role. He’s got four pitches he can use.”
