Pablo Sandoval and Carlos Beltran did not earn Gold Glove awards for their defensive performances in 2011.Both were named one of three finalists at third base and right field, respectively. Placido Polanco won the Gold Glove at third base, while Andre Ethier was the right-fielder honored. The Gold Glove award has been given out since 1957 with voting conducted by MLB managers and coaches. This was the first year in which the award was given specifically to left, center, and right-fielders instead of three different players from any of the outfield positions.
