SAN FRANCISCO – Marco Scutaro might not be prepping for a role as an everyday player, but at least he’s back on a baseball field again.
Scutaro played his first rehab game for the Giants’ affiliate in the rookie-level Arizona League Tuesday night. He was 0 for 2 with a ground out and a lineout while playing three innings at second base.

Scutaro’s rehab assignment can last a maximum of 20 games. Also, he is on the 60-day disabled list so the Giants would have to clear a 40-man roster space whenever they return him to the roster.
Scutaro, 38, has been unable to play all season because of a chronic lower back injury that hasn’t responded to multiple injections and other treatments.
