SAN FRANCISCO – Pablo Sandoval’s tight lower back felt better Tuesday night but he might be held out of Wednesday’s game as a precaution, Giants manager Bruce Bochy said.

Bochy considered Sandoval available off the bench on Tuesday’s 3-2 victory over the Boston Red Sox, but he preferred to avoid using him. Indeed, he sent up two other pinch hitters – Andres Torres and Hector Sanchez – in the ninth-inning rally that ended with Marco Scutaro’s walk-off walk.

Sanchez was hit by a pitch on the left forearm and went for precautionary X-rays, which did not reveal a fracture. Sanchez had an icepack on his arm and said he expected to be ready to go Wednesday.

As for Sandoval, he said his back locked up on him on the long flight back from Miami Sunday night. He wasn’t concerned that the injury would linger for long.
