Torrey Mitchells career with the San Jose Sharks is over. The unrestricted free agent signed a three-year contract with the Minnesota Wild on Sunday, worth a reported 1.9 million per season. That the Sharks let Mitchell walk was not a surprise. Mitchell recorded just nine goals last season playing primarily on the wing of the teams third line, and was inconsistent. On two separate occasions, coach Todd McLellan was forced to remove him from the lineup as a healthy scratch. In four seasons with the Sharks, Mitchell, 27, had 30 goals and 43 assists for 73 points and 152 penalty minutes in 280 career games. He was originally drafted by San Jose in the fourth round of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.Meanwhile, former Sharks forward Ray Whitney, a potential target by San Jose after 77 points in Phoenix last season, has signed a two-year contract with the Dallas Stars.
