Wingels, Braun, Desjardins re-sign

The Sharks have re-signed F Tommy Wingels, D Justin Braun and C Andrew Desjardins, the team announced today.

Wingels is in the Sharks' fold for two years, Braun for three and Desjardins for one year.
Wingels, The Evanston, Illinois native was a restricted free agent following his 2nd season of experience in the NHL. Wingels played five games for the Sharks in 2010-11, and 38 for the team last year. In that campaign he tallied 10 points (3g, 7a) between the regular and post-seasons."I'm very grateful to sign this contract extension," Wingels told me. "And I'm excited to be a member of the first-class organization that the Sharks are."Wingels is listed as 6'0", 190 lbs, but regularly played a game much bigger than his size: finishing checks, giving and taking hits from larger opponents without hesitation.

Off the ice, Wingels is deeply engrained in the "You Can Play Project" as an advisory board member. The foundation's goal is to end homophobia in sports and create acceptance for gay teammates and opponents. For his work, Wingels was the Sharks' nominee for the Masterton trophy this season.Sharks GM Doug Wilson commented on C Andrew Desjardins during this morning's conference call with reporters:
"Very competitive player, nothing has ever been given to him... that's the way he plays."
