Cousins' X-rays come back negative, timetable unknown

The Sacramento Kings dropped their fourth-straight game Saturday night and that isn’t the worst of it.

All-Star big man DeMarcus Cousins went down in a heap with 2:07 remaining in the fourth quarter when 7-footer Marc Gasol rolled up his left leg.

The news wasn’t all bad following the game. X-rays came back negative on the ankle and the Kings are listing their franchise player as day-to-day with a left ankle sprain. Cousins, 25, had already left the game in the first half after rolling the same ankle, but he was able to return after the intermission. He struggled after the injury, missing all nine of his shot attempts. He finished the night with 17 points and 14 rebounds on just 3-of-17 shooting.

The 6-foot-11 center is off to his best season as a pro, averaging 27.2 points and 11.2 rebounds per game. He was named to his second-straight All-Star game on Thursday and he is the reigning Western Conference Player of the Week.

It is unknown at this time how much time Cousins will miss, if any. But the Kings are 1-7 this season without their star big man and they have the Milwaukee Bucks coming through Sacramento on Monday night.
