With little or no progress in the ongoing labor dispute, the league took a predictable but disappointing step Friday.
An email from the league office stated that training camps have been canceled, as well as 43 preseason games. Training camps were scheduled to open on October 3.
In addition, the opening slate of exhibition games -- scheduled from Oct. 9 through Oct. 15 -- also have been canceled. The NBA regular season is scheduled to open on Nov. 1.

The statement:
We have regretfully reached the point on the calendar where we are not able to open training camps on time and need to cancel the first week of preseason games, said NBA Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver. We will make further decisions as warranted.
The Warriors' opening exhibition game was set to be Oct. 9 against the Lakers. Golden State is set to open the regular season at home, also against the Lakers, on Nov. 2.
The Kings were planning to tip off the exhibition slate against San Antonio at home on Oct. 11. Their first regular season contest is set for Nov. 2 against Houston.
The league locked out the players on July 1 after the expiration of the old labor agreement.
