Sources: Stockton won't join Bighorns, Henderson will

The wait is almost over for NBA D-League fans. With the D-League Draft scheduled for Saturday, the Reno Bighorns have been working to finalize deals with some of talent they hold exclusive rights to. It’s a complicated mixture of former Bighorns and Sacramento Kings training camp invitees and this is just the start.

Sources have confirmed to CSNBayArea.com that David Stockton will not return to Reno, although a door remains slightly open. The son of NBA legend John Stockton, David averaged 20.1 points and 9.4 assists per game for Reno a season ago. His stellar play earned him multiple call-ups to the Kings, but with three point guards on a maxed out 15 man roster, his potential for another run in Sacramento is a long shot.

Stockton will explore other options internationally, but if he decides to return to the D-League, the Bighorns would welcome him back with open arms.

After being waived by the Kings earlier in the month, sources have confirmed that Ole Miss sharpshooter Marshall Henderson will in fact join the Bighorns for this season. Earlier reports had him joining the team over the weekend, but the 25-year-old guard asked and received an extension on his timeframe to make a decision.

Henderson spent the last two seasons playing overseas after going undrafted in the 2013 NBA Draft. His run-and-gun style plays perfectly into what the Bighorns like to do under coach David Arseneault Jr.

Rookie Vince Hunter has also agreed to join the Bighorns. The 6-foot-8, 208-pound forward averaged 14.9 points and 9.2 rebounds per game as a sophomore at UTEP, but he went unselected in the NBA Draft in June. He spent training camp with the Kings in October, playing a total of two minutes.

Arseneault Jr. has spent plenty of time working as a guest on George Karl’s staff all through the preseason and even sat behind the bench on opening night. He doesn’t plan on deviating heavily from his uptempo Grinnell-style offense, but it plays to what the Kings’ are attempting to do on the floor.
