Hermanson scores 21 points, Saint Mary's beats BYU

MORAGA, Calif. -- Calvin Hermanson made 5 of 7 3-pointers and scored 14 of his 21 points in the second half to help Saint Mary's beat BYU 85-74 on Thursday night.

Jock Landale and Dane Pineau had 14 points apiece and Emmett Naar and Evan Fitzner each added 13 for the Gaels (12-1, 3-0 West Coast Conference) to win their sixth straight.

Saint Mary's made 8 of 9 shots down the stretch to help build its largest lead at 75-60.

At halftime, BYU (9-5, 0-1) had season lows for points scored (27) and shooting (28.2 percent) in a half. The Cougars opened the second with a 10-0 run to lead 37-36. The Gaels took the lead back right away and restored most of their advantage with a 12-3 run.

Chase Fischer had 21 points to lead the Cougars. Kyle Davis had 16 points, Nick Emery scored 11 and Nate Austin grabbed 14 rebounds.
