The professional career of former USF standout pitcher Kyle Zimmer will be sidetracked for the next six to eight weeks as he undergoes minor surgery to remove "loose bodies" from his throwing elbow, according to the Kansas City Royals.
The team posted the following news on Twitter:Royals 2012 1st rounder RHP Kyle Zimmer underwent minor procedure to remove loose bodies in right elbow yesterday in KC. Zimmer is expected to have a full recovery in 6-8 weeks and procedure should not impact any off-season preparation for 2013 season. Procedure on Zimmer was anticipated based on physical exam during the draft process.Zimmer, who was drafted fifth overall by the Royals in the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft, signed three days after he was drafted for a 3 million bonus, 500,000 less than the 3.5 million slotting for the No. 5 pick.
That discount could be a result of the anticipated procedure.

Zimmer, 20, went 5-3 for the Dons with a 2.85 ERA in 2012. He led the WCC with 104 strikeouts.
