Former Stanford basketball player Peter Sauer passed away over the weekend while playing basketball in New York. And in the wake of his friend's death, former Cardinal teammate Ryan Mendez has taken to the Internet to make sure Sauer's legacy lives on.
Mendez posted a touching tribute to Sauer, entitled "Peter Sauer R.I.P Brother" on Streetball.com. The tribute, which was posted at 6:30 p.m. Monday, includes the following paragraph:
I always told Sauer that he was like a big brother to me. His mental and physical toughness was second to none on the court and off the court. He was one of the smartest guys I have ever met with a personality that everyone loved. I often spoke of Sauer about how I felt about some things that happened to me at Stanford and his advice to me was, "Let It Go Brother, Let it Go." I have been taking his advice and it pains me to think that Peter suddenly passed away when I can't help but think it should have been me instead of Peter.
It is worth taking a glance at the Streetball.com post, which also includes a link to a video tribute to Sauer:
