SAN FRANCISCO (AP) Avry Holmes scored 15 points and Tim Derksen added 13 more as San Francisco snatched a 77-69 win over American University on Sunday.

Neither team could break open much of a lead in the tight second half until USF (7-5) pulled away in the final two minutes with a 13-6 run sparked by back-to-back Anthony Glover layups. The Dons sank 28 of 42 from the field (61 percent) and were 7 of 12 from 3-point range to close out their non-conference schedule.

Cole Dickerson contributed 11 points for San Francisco, while Glover, Chris Adams and Kruize Pinkins had 9 apiece.

American U (3-7) trailed by as much as 12 points in the first half before shaving the deficit to 33-30 at the break, then twice took brief leads in the second half before losing them.

John Schoof led the Eagles with 22 points and Jesse Reed added 16.
