Ward did not work out at the Combine because of a foot injury. He repped 225 pounds nine times. He ran an unofficial 4.47-second 40 time at his Pro Day. On May 8, 2014, the San Francisco 49ers drafted Ward with the No. 30 overall pick in the first round. According to CSN Bay Area Insider Matt Maiocco, "He has a chance to compete for playing time as the slot corner. But, more than likely, he will be a special-teams standout in his first year and eventually work into a starting job in future seasons. "
