It's very rare that you come across a high school so dedicated to giving back during the holiday season. Presentation High School in San Jose has been volunteering their time for over a month putting on various events to help aide those in need at Sacred Heart in Willow Glen. The all-girls school started their volunteer work at the beginning of November, designating each day of the week to a specific item.

Over the course of two weeks, the girls gathered jackets and blankets, diapers, hygiene materials and canned goods. The girls also set out to the neighborhoods of San Jose dropping off empty grocery bags, only to return a couple of days later in hopes of a filled bag. After three dedicated weeks the girls and local neighborhood of San Jose gathered 20,000 cans of food, 12,000 diapers and 800 blankets and coats-- enough to feed close to 4,000 families between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The effort to give back to the community did not stop with their successful food drive.  Two days before this past Thanksgiving each girl came to school with as many frozen turkeys as they could. Sacred Heart gathered the turkeys together before school sand in just one hour over 872 turkeys were collected, breaking last years school record of 800.

This week Presentation kicks off yet another week of giving with their annual toy-drive. Like the food drive, each day will feature a different themed toy for five schoold days. All of the girls at Presentation take pride in helping the less fortunate at Sacred Heart and love seeing the faces of the individuals receiving their items.
