Wildcats continue to roll

This past week I was on the sideline for an exciting matchup between the St. Ignatius Wildcats and the Riordan Crusaders, with both teams boasting identical records at 9-1. When I arrived to Saint Ignatius High School I was greeted by a line forming out of the main gymnasium doors and stretching nearly a block down the street. Fans from both schools pilling in, eager to see two of the more successful high school programs from San Francisco battle it out on the hardwood. Once I wrestled my oversized camera bag through the rowdy group and made it into the gym I could immediately feel the electricity in the air.
The build up was all worth it for the head to head action on the court that would ensue. The Wildcats came out hot and after the first quarter they lead 20-10. In the second quarter it was back and forth and the Crusaders managed to cut the deficit down to five points at halftime. Riordan grabbed the lead in the third and it appeared they may steal it, but the Wildcats came out in the fourth and reclaimed the lead and eventually sealed a 54-49 win.
The game definitely lived up to all of the hype. Both teams played their hearts out, but the Wildcats just had a little bit more in the end to pull out the win. I look forward to covering more games with as much excitement as this one as the season progresses.
