The Oakland Raiders have re-signed S Nate Allen, the club announced Thursday.

The Raiders released Allen on Tuesday afternoon, a day before his 2016 base salary became fully guaranteed.

Allen was slated to make $4.9 million and a $100,000 workout bonus. The Raiders will save $5 million in salary cap space.

Allen’s release doesn’t come with any dead money due to the structure of four-year contract signed last offseason worth a maximum of $23 million that was essentially a pay-as-you-go deal after the first season.

The defensive back played in five games for the Raiders in 2015, starting three, and totaled 14 tackles (11 solo), one interception and two passes defensed. He missed 11 games on the year, suffering a knee injury in Week 1 and finishing the year on the Reserve/Injured List. He was released Tuesday before re-joining the team today.

The six-year veteran has played in 79 games with 72 starts over his career, totaling 394 tackles (268 solo), 11 interceptions, four sacks, 30 passes defensed, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. Allen originally signed with Oakland as an unrestricted free agent in March 2015 following five seasons (2010-14) with the Philadelphia Eagles.

A native of Cape Coral, Fla., Allen played collegiately at South Florida and started 39-of-48 career games at free safety.
