Three and Out: Eyes on Barron; pistol for Pryor; Brees to test DBs

The Raiders have issues along the offensive line without simple solutions.
Left tackle Jared Veldheer, arguably their best player, is out an extended time recovering from triceps surgery. Alex Barron wasn’t even serviceable in his place Friday night against the Saints.

The Raiders have instability at guard and uneven play from Khalif Barnes at right tackle.
The offensive front is a mess. That’s forced the Raiders to consider outside options.
“(Hall of Fame tackle) Anthony Munoz is not out there right now, so we’re looking at the options to see what there is,” Allen said. “If we feel like there’s somebody out there that can help us, then we’re definitely going to go out there and try and make that happen. Offensive line play is something we’ve got to improve on. We didn’t play well enough in that area the other night, and we’ve got to work to get better.”
The Raiders well-documented struggles protecting the passer on Friday won’t be re-hashed here. But, with Veldheer expected to miss several games and no timetable for rookie tackle Menelik Watson to return from a calf injury, the Raiders don’t have viable options on the roster.

“Some of our options have been limited due to injuries and some things are a necessity based off where you are injury-wise,” Allen said. “We’re going to continue to look at the offensive line and continue to see if there are some other scenarios that we could go through and some other lineup changes we could go through to try to, at the end of the day, figure out who the top five guys that we go into the season with.”
-- Allen said that CB Tracy Porter (groin) is questionable for Friday’s exhibition against Chicago and that he’ll be evaluated next week.
-- TE David Ausberry (shoulder) will miss the rest of the preseason.
-- OL John Wetzel (knee) is out a few weeks.
-- WLB Kevin Burnett (knee), K Eddie Carmona (neck, leg) and DL Brandon Bair (hamstring) are considered day-to-day
-- Allen said DT Pat Sims (hamstring), OL Menelik Watson (calf) and DT Vance Walker aren’t particularly close to returning to practice.
