ALAMEDA – Just a day after Raiders coach Dennis Allen said Andre Holmes’ role would increase, the receiver was added to the injury report.

His participation was limited due to a hamstring injury of unknown severity. Whether it impacts his snap count Sunday against Philadelphia remains to be seen.

Holmes will get a crack at increased playing time, especially in the slot, if he’s healthy. If not, Juron Criner, might be activated for the first time this season. The Raiders could also play with four receivers, as they did during the first five games.

The competition is close among receivers not named Denarius Moore or Rod Streater.

“It’s a tight group,” offensive coordinator Greg Olson said. “We had some drops last week that hurts us, so it’s still a matter of finding some consistency there. We need to find guys who can do the job.”

Criner has a better chance to play than weeks past.

“There’s a chance that Juron could be up this week,” Olson said, “based on the way that he’s been practicing and the health of that player.”

Veldheer works: Left tackle Jared Veldheer worked on a side field with trainers during Thursday's practice, the first time he's done so since having triceps surgery in August. It's a tangible sign that the Raiders are indeed ramping up his activity after a positive progress report on his rehab this week. Some good side work will put him in line to practice and eventually play.

Limited participation:
OT Menelik Watson (calf), Andre Holmes (hamstring)
Did not practice: SS Tyvon Branch (ankle), RT Tony Pashos (hip flexor), C/G Andre Gurode (quadriceps).
Physically unable to perform list (21-day practice window began Wednesday): LB Miles Burris (knee)
Injured reserve: TE David Ausberry (shoulder), RB Latavius Murray (ankle), K Eddie Carmona (leg), G Tony Bergstrom (foot); Designated to return: LT Jared Veldheer (triceps)
