Notes: Raiders QB Carr ‘made great decisions all day'

OAKLAND – Raiders quarterback Derek Carr is on a roll. The second-year pro has been excellent since the bye week, leading the Silver and Black to a pair of wins paced by quality offensive production.

The latest came Sunday in a 34-20 win over the rugged New York Jets, where he put up monster numbers for the second straight game. He completed 23-of-36 passes to nine different targets for 333 yards, four touchdowns, no picks and a 130.9 passer rating.

Yowza. That’s pretty good by any standard.

He hasn’t thrown an interception since the pick-six to Denver’s Chris Harris Jr. in Week 5, using fastballs and touch to move the ball up and down the field. He’s done a solid job getting receivers the ball in stride and free to create yards after the catch.

"Derek played very, very well,” head coach Jack Del Rio said. “Made great decisions all day. It’s a good thing.”

When Carr does well, the Raiders win. His passer rating has exceeded 100 four times in seven games this season, and the Raiders have won each time. He is the first player since 2004 to throw three-plus touchdowns in consecutive games, and is the fifth Raiders passer to throw for 300 yards, four TDs and no interceptions in the game.

“Carr is really hot right now,” Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis said. “That was clear.”

Woodson moves up the list: Raiders safety Charles Woodson snagged his NFL-best fifth interception in the first half, which moved him up in the NFL record book. It was his 65th career interception, which ties him for fifth all time with Ken Riley in that category.

He is in second place for most interceptions after the NFL merger, only behind Hall-of-Fame defensive back and current Raiders secondary coach, Rod Woodson.

Woodson has four picks in his last four games.

Facing Geno: Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick left the game for good in the first quarter with torn ligaments in his left thumb. That put backup Geno Smith in the game for the first time this season, and he didn’t play awful.

The athletic quarterback completed 27-of-42 passes for 265 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. He also had 34 yards rushing and was sacked three times. The Raiders didn’t have to switch things up much because Smith and Fitzpatrick are both mobile quarterbacks.

Murray goes off: Raiders running back Latavius Murray exceeded 100 yards for the second time this year and the third time in his career. He had 113 yards on 20 carries against the league’s best run defense, with a career-high 5.7 yards per carry.

NOTES -- Raiders defensive lineman Denico Autry and cornerback DJ Hayden each recorded their first career sack on Sunday afternoon.

-- Head coach Jack Del Rio didn’t have any injuries of significance to report after the game. Khalil Mack got shaken up near game’s end, but he didn’t seem concerned about health after the game.
