ALAMEDA – Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor keeps backing away from inflammatory comments made by his agent on Monday night.

The first step came early Tuesday morning, when Pryor apologized via Twitter for Jerome Stanley’s comments insinuating that head coach Dennis Allen set his client up to fail by starting him Sunday against Denver.

Pryor took another jump back in an afternoon press conference, where he said he never thought Allen would put him in a bad spot.

Those moves make it clear that Pryor wants to put this drama to rest.

“I know for a fact the man Coach Allen is, and that doesn’t even cross my mind as a possibility,” Pryor said. “I know he wants to win. All he talks about is winning. We have a good game plan and we’re going in to try to beat the Denver Broncos.”

Pryor smoothed things over with Allen by phone on Monday night, and eliminated any possible rift between player and head coach.

“At first it was awkward, because that’s my head coach,” Pryor said. “It sounds like it’s coming from a person that you deal with, so that’s how it became a little awkward. But Coach Allen and I talked, and he understands what went on. We’re on the same page with that. That’s all I have for that.”

Pryor spoke briefly to Stanley on Tuesday, but declined to declare the contents of that conversation. He wanted the subject re-focused on football.

Pryor made it clear he’s excited to start again, for the first time since Nov. 10 against the New York Giants. He was largely a spectator in six games after that, but is ready to re-take the No. 1 spot and try to end the season on a high note.

“I’m excited to get out there and play with my guys,” Pryor said. “I have confidence in my teammates and myself. I know that we can get the job done together.”
