SAN DIEGO -- Greetings from Qualcomm Stadium, where, to quote Will Smith, the smell from a grill can spark up nostalgia.Yes, the pregame tailgate here at The Q for a Raiders-Chargers game is the wildest in the NFL. At least as far as I've seen, what with so many Los Angeles Raiders fans making the quick trek down the freeway and for a primetime matchup.Rode the trolley in from the hotel early and there was already a palpable feel to the excitement of game night.
Yet while there's a lot cooking outside the stadium, some news is also cooking inside for the first Thursday night game of the season.
As written earlier, the Raiders have signed safety Jerome Boyd off the practice squad. The corresponding move? Oakland waived safety Chinedum Ndukwe, who was on the injury report this week with a knee issue. On the field for early warmups, however, left-footed kicker Sebastian Janikowski (hamstring) was warming up ... by throwing tight, 30-yard spirals at the crossbarswith his right arm. He should be good to kick tonight.Center Samson Satele was also working with trainers on agility drills. His injured left knee was wrapped with a huge brace. Rookie Stephen Wisniewski was paying close attention. Just in case he has to play the position.Rookie cornerback Chimdi Chekwa (hamstring) was jogging around the field and defensive tackle chard Seymour (ankle) was warming up as well.
