Raiders don't receive compensatory NFL draft picks

The NFL announced compensatory draft picks on Friday morning. A total of 13 clubs received at least one extra spot in this year’s NFL draft.

The Raiders got zero, which wasn’t a surprise.

The compensatory picks are awarded based upon free agency gains and losses during the previous offseason, and the Silver and Black came out ahead in that venture.

They imported center Rodney Hudson, receiver Michael Crabtree, linebacker Malcolm Smith and tight end Lee Smith, among others. They didn’t lose much outside running back Darren McFadden and safety Tyvon Branch.

Activity in free agency has kept the Raiders out of the compensatory pick mix over the last few seasons. The same thing should happen again next year, following a number of free-agent pickups and the possibility of just one significant loss should left tackle Donald Penn choose to sign elsewhere.

Adding compensatory picks solidifies the NFL’s draft order. Here are the Raiders’ selections:

Round 1: No. 14 (No. 14 overall)
Round 2: No. 13 (No. 44 overall)
Round 3: No. 12 (No. 75 overall)
Round 4: No. 16 (No. 114 overall)
Round 5: No. 4 (No. 143 overall)*
Round 5: No. 15 (No. 154 overall)
Round 6: No. 19 (No. 194 overall)**
Round 7: No. 13 (No. 234 overall)
