ALAMEDA – Raiders running back Darren McFadden didn’t play against the Kansas City Chiefs at full strength. He rushed to return from a hamstring strain after missing most of the two previous games to help an ailing rushing attack.

McFadden had 16 carries for 52 yards and three catches for 31 yards, but didn’t feel 100 percent. He said he never got loose during the game, where he missed some opportunities for big runs.

McFadden looked better after the bye week, and was a full practice participant on Monday and Wednesday.

“I don’t think anyone is 100 percent at this point in this time of the year,” Raiders coach Dennis Allen said, “but he looks explosive.”

That’s a positive sign for McFadden who has just one big game all season. He had 129 yards Sept. 15 against Jacksonville, and got hurt the following week.

The running game has produced some big gains with quarterback Terrelle Pryor, who remains the team’s leading rusher. The Raiders would like to produce consistently with “core runs,” prototypical plays designed to keep the chains moving with small chunks.

That’s part rushers and part blocking, and the results have been mixed. Allen prefers they be steady.

“That’s just an area that I think we need to continue to work on to improve,” Allen said. “I think we’ve got to be able to be a balanced offense to be able to be effective.”

O-Line still ailing: Center Stefen Wisniewski returned Wednesday on a limited basis, but the Raiders offensive line isn’t at full strength. Right tackle Tony Pashos and reserve guard/center Andre Gurode remain out. That keeps Matt McCants in for Pashos and leaves Lamar Mady as the first guard off the bench.

Maiava exits early: Outside linebacker Kaluka Maiava walked off the field with injury just as the practice opened up to the media. He was diagnosed with a hamstring strain. It’s uncertain exactly when the injury occurred.

Limited participation: C Stefen Wisniewski (knee), CB Tracy Porter (shoulder)
Did not practice: SS Tyvon Branch (ankle), Kaluka Maiava (hamstring), RT Tony Pashos (hip flexor), C/G Andre Gurode (quadriceps), OT Menelik Watson (calf)
Injured reserve: TE David Ausberry (shoulder), RB Latavius Murray (ankle), K Eddie Carmona (leg), G Tony Bergstrom (foot); Designated to return: LT Jared Veldheer (triceps)
Physically unable to perform list: LB Miles Burris (knee)
