UPDATE (Wednesday at 12:30 p.m.) -- The Raiders made it official, announcing the re-signing of safety Usama Young Wednesday afternoon.

The Raiders re-signed safety Usama Young to a two-year contract. His agent, Andy Simms, tweeted out the information on Saturday morning.

Young finished last season on injured reserve with a neck injury, but he played well on defense and special teams. He signed last year’s contract assuming he would start at free safety before Charles Woodson signed a one-year deal. He’s expected to be a reserve on this year’s team as well.

Young is a high-character player who has played for Dennis Allen before. The former New Orleans Saint -- Allen was the defensive backs coach from 2006-10 -- had 26 tackles. 2.5 sacks, an interception and three passes defensed last season.
