ALAMEDA -- The Raiders wrapped up their first of three minicamp practices on Tuesday.
Practice summary: For the most part, it was a fast-paced, crisp practice, though there were a few drops and one lull going into the first punting drill.
A pleased Dennis Allen said the thing he's focused on improving is the consistency, not the effort.
After the offense and defense matched up evenly for most of the day, the first-team offense connected on four of five plays in the final 11-on-11 drill. After Matt Flynn's success, though, the second- and third-team defenses stepped up and stopped units led by Terrelle Pryor, Tyler Wilson and Matt McGloin with the rest of the team watching on the sideline.
Offensive play of the day: Denarius Moore was responsible for the offense's best highlight. A play after Matt Flynn's wobbly ball to the left corner was hauled in by Marcel Reece over Tyvon Branch, Flynn went back to the same spot. This time, Moore had a step on Tracy Porter. While he appeared to jump too early, the athletic receiver hung in the air long enough to snatch the ball with his fingertips and send his teammates on the sidelines into their biggest reaction of the practice.
Defensive play of the day: The third-team defense pulled down the only interception of the day. Keenan Clayton jumped a quick slant and deflected Tyler Wilson's pass into the air, where it was corralled by defensive end Jack Crawford.
Rookie report: With D.J. Hayden watching and Latavius Murray not on the field, it was Sio Moore and Mychal Rivera who made the biggest impact Tuesday.
Moore is getting some work with the first-team unit of linebackers and is also on the field for special teams. Rivera is competing for a wide open tight end position with Richard Gordon and David Ausberry, and was seen making a couple of catches Tuesday. He hauled in a tough high pass from Flynn, though there were no defenders around him.
On the sideline: Josh Cribbs, Taiwan Jones, Coye Francies, Latavius Murray, Johnny Jones, Jon Hoese, Miles Burris, Stacy McGee, Isaiah Williams, Nick Kasa were all listed by head coach Dennis Allen as non participants with "various injuries." Murray left the field just as media members were entering, and Allen said he has a "foot thing."
Quote of the day: "Developing habits every day. Are they good or are they bad? Habits! Keep the ball tucked!"
