Matt Schaub has been the Raiders starting quarterback from the moment he left Houston. Raiders' coaches said this time and again in the offseason and throughout training camp despite solid play from second-round pick Derek Carr.

The rookie’s accelerated progress didn’t change that. Neither will one exhibition game where both passers had moments good and bad.

Head coach Dennis Allen will stick with the second unit on Saturday afternoon in a conference call with local press. He doesn't anticipate using Carr with the first-team in preseason games.

“It’s not really part of the plan right now,” Allen said. “We’ll evaluate everything as we move along, but the plan is to work Matt Schaub as the starting quarterback. I think he’s done a good job of doing that.”

While Schaub only had one first down in three series, he could’ve had a few more if passes were caught or if passer and receiver were on the same page. Schaub also missed some throws, but Allen saw positive moments on tape that foreshadow improved play in the future.

“I was not displeased with Matt Schaub’s performance,” Allen said. “We obviously need to play better. We need to be more consistent, but I thought there were some things we can build on.”
