Raiders practice notes — Janikowski helmeted

ALAMEDA -- While running back Darren McFadden (foot) was again not on the field at the start of practice Friday, placekicker Sebastian Janikowski (hamstring) had a helmet on but had yet to kick before the media window closed.

There is little doubt that McFadden will sit out Sunday's sold-out home game against Denver but Janikowski is a more interesting and delicate case. Coach Hue Jackson acknowledged Thursday he would have a kicker on speed-dial in case Janikowski cannot go again. Dave Rayner was on the roster for the Raiders' 28-0 loss to Kansas City on Oct. 23. He had the opening kickoff and never stepped on the field again.

Meanwhile, free safety Michael Huff (ankle) and strong safety Tyvon Branch switched jersey at the beginning of practice.

Receiver Louis Murphy, who is also a gunner on punt team, was being stretched out on the side. He underwent sports hernia surgery during camp and has only been active the past two games.

Cornerback Chimdi Chekwa (hamstring) was on a stationary bike.

Middle linebacker Rolando McClain (ankle) was practicing for the first time since injuring the ankle at Houston on Oct. 9, though he has not missed a game.

Cornerback Chris Johnson (hamstringgroin) was also nowhere to be seen and should be headed to season-ending Injured Reserve.
