As expected, the Raiders are taking a close look at the NFL Draft’s top quarterbacks. Head coach Dennis Allen and offensive coordinator Greg Olson were in Louisville on Monday for Teddy Bridgewater’s pro day and Central Florida on Wednesday to see Blake Bortles workout in person.

Reggie McKenzie joined them at Fresno State on Thursday to check out Derek Carr. They’ll attend Johnny Manziel’s private workout at Texas A&M on March 27.

The search will be thorough as they decide whether to take a quarterback No. 5 overall in the NFL draft.

Opinions on these pro days always make a headline, but the Raiders brass care far more about how quarterbacks play in games than scripted workouts in shorts. They’ve met with the top four quarterbacks during various stages of this pre-draft process.

The Raiders know these passers well, so a pro day performance won’t make opinions. It'll accent what’s already on tape.

It also doesn’t mean the Raiders will take a quarterback in the first round. McKenzie was at Buffalo to see linebacker Khalil Mack. He was also at San Jose State on Wednesday, presumably for passer David Fales.

Trying to pull a draft board from all that is a fool’s errand. The Raiders attendance record clearly shows they’re analyzing quarterbacks in great detail, possibly fulfilling McKenzie’s desire to draft a young passer of the future in May.
