The Oakland Raiders have signed free agent S Usama Young, the team announced in a press release Tuesday.
Young, entering his seventh NFL campaign, played the last two seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Before that, he spent four years with the New Orleans Saints, where he was coached by Dennis Allen, then the secondary coach of the Saints.
A 6-foot, 200-pound safety out of Kent State, Young has played in 81 career games with 25 starts. His career totals include seven interceptions, 22 passes defensed and 2½ sacks since entering the NFL as New Orleans’ third-round selection (66th overall) in the 2007 NFL Draft.
In 2012, Young played in 13 games with 11 starts and posted career highs with three interceptions and 1½ sacks. In 2011, his first season with Cleveland after signing with the Browns as an unrestricted free agent, Young played in all 16 games and totaled a career-best 70 tackles (51 solo).
