Raiders sign three free agents

The Oakland Raiders announced the signing of three free agents on Friday: OL Kareem Are, RB John Crockett and LB Brady Sheldon.

Are: Played in 23 games with 17 starts over two seasons at Florida State…Redshirted as a true freshman in 2014…Named to the All-ACC Second Team by the coaches and media last season after starting nine games…In 2015, played in 13 games with eight starts at left guard and was named to the All-ACC Third Team by the media and selected as an All-ACC honorable mention by the coaches…Transferred to Florida State after originally attending Fort Scott (Kan.) Community College…Participated in the Raiders’ rookie mini-camp in May on a tryout basis…Last name is pronounced ‘R.’

Crockett: Originally signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent in May 2015…Spent the entire 2016 season on the Reserve/Injured List…Played in two games as a rookie in 2015, totaling nine carries for 21 yards…Appeared in 46 games with 17 starts at North Dakota State, amassing 5,151 all-purpose yards, the second highest total in school history…As a senior in 2014, set school records for all-purpose yards (2,419), rushing yards (1,994) and rushing attempts (368)…Earned second-team Sports Network All-American and second-team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference honors.

Sheldon: Played four years at Ferris State, totaling 111 career tackles in 33 games…In 2016, played in 14 games, setting a career-high 54 tackles (28 solo) with one sack…Named honorable mention All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference…In 2015, appeared in 12 games recording 43 tackles (21), leading Ferris State to their second straight GLIAC title…Participated in the Raiders’ rookie mini-camp in May on a tryout basis.
