He looks a lot better, but that’s one of those things that you just kind of visit with the trainers every day and find out how he did each particular day.

ALAMEDA – The Raiders could place cornerback DJ Hayden on the reserve physically unable to perform list on Tuesday afternoon, when rosters shrink to 75 players.

That isn’t going to happen. If Hayden ends up with that designation, which mandates his miss the first six weeks, it won’t happen until closer to Saturday’s mandate that teams adopt a 53-man roster.

“We’re going to push it all the way up until the deadline, until we find out exactly where he is,” head coach Dennis Allen said. “We’ll wait and see what we have to do on that.”

Hayden has done some impactful side work during practices open to the press. He did so again on Monday, slashing and cutting his way through drills.

“I watched him out there moving around with the trainers today,” Allen said. “He looks a lot better, but that’s one of those things that you just kind of visit with the trainers every day and find out how he did each particular day. He’s making progress that’s for sure.”

Some other injury notes:

-- Cornerback Taiwan Jones did some side work on Monday as he recovers from a knee strain. The goal is for him to be ready for the regular season.

-- Middle linebacker Nick Roach remains out while working through the NFL’s protocol on concussions. He suffered the head injury on Friday at Green Bay.

-- Kicker Sebsatian Janikowski (right quadriceps) kicked some on Monday, but he probably won’t play in Thursday’s exhibition finale.

“I don’t think he’s 100 percent, so again we’re going to be smart there,” Allen said. “I’m not going to put him out there and take the risk of going into the regular season with him injured, so we’ll see where he’s at the next couple of days. He was a lot better today than he was four days ago.”

-- The Raiders shuffled their offensive line some with right tackle Menelik Watson out. Left guard replaces Watson outside, and rookie Gabe Jackson steps in for Barnes.
