The move was announced on the NFL's transaction page on Thursday.

McClain retired last May after signing a deal with the Baltimore Ravens a month earlier.

The 24-year-old was drafted by the Raiders with the eighth overall pick in the 2010 draft.

In three seasons with the Raiders, McClain played in 41 games, amassing 175 tackles and 6.5 sacks.

The Ravens hold the rights to McClain and he must be added to the roster, released or traded within 24 hours of being reinstated.
