ALAMEDA -- Raiders left tackle Jared Veldheer is ready to ramp up activity, but remains a few weeks away from a return to game action.

Veldheer saw a specialist in Los Angeles on Monday, who said his recovery from triceps surgery remains on schedule and that he is clear to increase his workload.

“It was real positive,” Veldheer said. “He said I was on track with everything. I’m really pumped to get back out there. We’re getting close. That’s the exciting part.”

Raiders coach Dennis Allen said “on schedule” referred to the three-month recovery time typical of surgery to repair a partially torn triceps. Veldheer had surgery Aug. 14, meaning he’s on pace to return Nov. 17 against Houston.

That date isn’t locked. Veldheer’s progress must continue. He remains on injured reserve with a designation to return, and the team has 21 days to activate him or place him on injured reserve. He can come back sooner, whenever the Raiders believe he’s ready.

Right now, they’re encouraged by his progress.

“We’re at a point where we can ramp up the rehab a bit, but he’s still a little bit away,” Allen said. “Indications are that he’s on schedule, and hopefully we’ll have him out there sooner rather than later.”
