SAN JOSE -– The San Jose SaberCats announced today that they have activated quarterback Russ Michna from injured reserve, defensive back Kenny Okoro from inactive reserve, and been assigned rookie defensive back Demar Dorsey. In corresponding transactions, quarterback Nick Stephens and defensive back Simeon Castille were placed on injured reserve, and defensive lineman Luis Vasquez was placed on inactive reserve.
“We are happy to get Russ back in time for the playoffs,” said Owner and Head Coach Darren Arbet. “Anytime you can bring another veteran leader into the locker room, it’s a good move.”
Michna (6-2, 220, Western Illinois) has started nine times for the SaberCats this season, leading the team to a 6-3 record over that span. On the season, he completed 165-of-254 yards for 1,901 yardswith 44 touchdowns to just six interceptions.
Okoro (6-1, 190, Wake Forest), a rookie to the Arena Football League, appeared in 11 contests for San Jose this season. During the year, the defensive back finished fourth on the team with 60.0 tackles, added eight pass breakups, and notched one interception.
Dorsey (6-1, 185, Western Arizona) is also a rookie to the AFL and spent time with the Arizona Rattlers earlier this season. In three games, he recorded nine-and-a-half tackles with one interception and one pass breakup.
The SaberCats (13-5, #2 Seed) begin the road to the ArenaBowl with a first round matchup against the Spokane Shock (11-7, #3 Seed) on Saturday, August 2 at 7:00 PM, at the SAP Center.
