SaberCats bring back Harper as DL coach

SAN JOSE -- The SaberCats today announced former San Jose defensive lineman Alan Harper has been hired as defensive line coach for the remainder of the 2011 season.Alan Harper was a great contributor for the SaberCats during his three seasons with the franchise, said OwnerHead Coach Darren Arbet We think he will be a great coach for us and were excited that he will be joining our staff for the remainder of the season. Harper played from 2006-08 for the SaberCats, notching 41.5 tackles (29 solo), 10.5 for loss to along with 7.0 sacks, six forced fumbles and two passes defensed.Originally drafted in the fourth round (121st overall) of the 2002 NFL Draft by the New York Jets, he appeared in 11 games in 2004 for New York, seeing action in two postseason contests.In four seasons at Fresno State (1998-2001), he earned All-Western Athletic Conference first-team honors starting in 45 of 50 games. During his time with the Bulldogs, he totaled 233 tackles and 21.0 sacks, earning WAC Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2001 after leading the team with 12.0 sacks.
