SaberCats finalize roster — season opener Friday

SAN JOSEThe SaberCats today announced the additions of WR Burl Toler, FBLB Matt Huebner and DB Dwight Mclean along with a trade for Chicago Rush DL Chris Perri in exchange for future considerations. San Jose also traded for OL Karl Glimp from the Milwaukee Mustangs in exchange for WR Marcus Everett and placed Huebner and Glimp on the refuse to report list while activating WR Rodney Wright, finalizing their roster heading into their season opener against the Spokane Shock on March 11.

FBLB MATT HUEBNER
A three-year veteran with the Force, Huebner (6-4, 280) established himself as one of the most dangerous rushing threats in the AFL, amassing 274 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns on 96 attempts with the Georgia Force. A versatile player, he also contributed 38 total tackles, 3.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries during his time with the Force.

WR BURL TOLER
A former California Golden Bear, Toler (6-2, 200) spent the 2008 offseason with the Washington Redskins after signing with San Jose in 2008. Prior to signing with the SaberCats, Toler served his first stint with the Redskins in 2007 after spending time with the Cologne Centurions of NFL Europe. He originally signed with the SaberCats in 2007 before joining the Centurions. Undrafted out of California, Toler was originally signed by the Oakland Raiders in 2006.

A walk-on at California, Toler finished with 69 receptions for 873 yards and four touchdowns. His best season came in 2003 when he caught 48 passes for 609 yards and three touchdowns. A native of Berkeley, CA, Toler attended Bishop ODowd High School (CA) helping his team to two league titles and a North Coast Section championship, earning first team all-league on offense and defense his senior year. Toler also lettered four years in track, attending the League of Champions meet his final three years.

DB DWIGHT MCLEAN
Mclean (6-1, 205) joins San Jose after spending two years at Purdue where he transferred from Fullerton College. Appearing in all 12 games, including six starts as a junior he shared the team lead with two interceptions while recording 36 tackles (22 solo, 14 assists) and three passes defensed.

DL CHRIS PERRI
Perri (6-3, 290) joins the SaberCats after spending time with the Chicago Rush in 2010. As a senior at Stony Brook, Perri started 11 games, finishing third on the team in sacks and tackles for loss, earning second-team All-Big South honors. At Bishop ODowd (CA) High School, Perri was a second team All-San Francisco Bay Area selection as a senior and initially attended University of Colorado before transferring to Stony Brook.

OL KARL GLIMP
Glimp (6-4, 305) joins the SaberCats after spending time with the Milwaukee Mustangs in 2010. A four-year starter at Stephen F. Austin University, was one of the top offensive lineman in the Southland Conference and earned all-conference honorable mention honors as a junior.
