Couture misses practice Friday

SAN JOSELogan Couture was on the ice briefly at HP Pavilion on Friday morning, but only because of the annual team photo that took place before practice.

After smiling for the cameras, he promptly exited to the locker room, suggesting that he could miss more than just the previous two games after suffering what looked to be a knee injury against Minnesota on Sunday.

Couture wouldnt rule himself out for Saturdays home game against the St. Louis Blues, however.

Just resting it. It was a quick practice anyway. Probably best right now for me to get all the rest that I can get and see how I can feel tomorrow, said Couture, of what the team is officially calling a lower body injury.

Its unfortunate because it sucks watching games, especially when the team doesnt win. Hopefully I dont have to sit out many more games."

The Sharks leading goal-scorer with 27, Couture tried practicing on Thursday morning before the 1-0 loss to Buffalo later that night. He wasnt on for very long, though, quickly realizing that he wouldnt be ready to go against the Sabres.

Couture was injured after a series of big hits from the Wild, including a crunching third period check from Greg Zanon, who has since been traded to the Boston Bruins. That was on top of a jarring hit from Kyle Brodziak in the first period.

It was all built up. I took a couple hard hits. At this point in the season everyone in the leagues body is banged up, Couture said.
