SAN JOSE -- A pair of Sharks were honored by the NHL for their impressive months of October.

Tomas Hertl was chosen as the NHL’s Rookie of the Month after scoring eight goals and 11 points in 13 games. The 19-year-old’s biggest accomplishment was a four-goal performance against the New York Rangers on Oct. 8, when the became the fourth-youngest NHL player to score four times in one game.

Antti NIemi was chosen as the NHL’s third star of the month, behind the Blues’ Alex Steen and Pittsburgh’s Sidney Crosby. The goaltender went 9-1-2 with a 1.72 goals-against average and two shutouts.

“I am very, very happy. This month is very good,” Hertl said, also mentioning the Sharks’ 10-win October that has them at the top of the league standings.

Hertl cooled off a bit since his scorching start in which he had nine points in his first six games. Since then, the 2012 first round pick has just one goal and one assist in his last seven games.

He indicated that the hectic NHL schedule hasn’t been a factor.

“It’s new, and [in] Europe and Czech Republic, [there are] two games in every week,” Hertl said. “[NHL] is every day. It’s good. I like [it].”

Hertl, who has been living in a hotel since training camp, will be moving in with a local family in Los Gatos on Oct. 8, a strong indication that the Sharks will keep him up with the NHL club for the remainder of the season.
