Marleau stays hot, tallies three assists against Austria

Patrick Marleau tallied three assists, all in the second period on goals by the Los Angeles Kings’ Jeff Carter, in Canada’s authoritative 6-0 win over Austria in Olympic action in Sochi on Friday.

Marleau, who had an assist on Thursday, now has four helpers in the tournament. He skated for 14 minutes and two seconds and finished with a +3 rating against Austria.

Along with Carter’s hat trick, Canada got goals from Drew Doughty, Shea Weber and Ryan Getzlaf. Roberto Luongo claimed the shutout with 23 saves.

Canada plays its third and final preliminary game on Sunday against Finland (9 a.m. PST).

Also on Friday, Finland beat Norway, 6-1. Sharks goaltender Antti Niemi served as backup to Kari Lehtonen after not dressing in Finland’s first game.
