Antti Niemi had a career 2013 season as far a stats go, posting a 2.16 GAA and a .924 save percentage. But apparently it wasn't enough to take home the hardware on Saturday night as the Sharks' goaltender finished third in Vezina voting.
The Vezina trophy awarded to the NHL's best goaltender in the regular season went instead to Sergei Bobrovsky of the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Bobrovsky's regular season stats trump Niemi's as the Columbus tender posted an impressive 2.00 GAA and a slightly higher .934 save percentage, but accomplished it playing only 38 games to Niemi's 43.
Niemi's strong regular season performance is arguably one of the biggest contributors to the Sharks' postseason berth, while the Blue Jackets finished ninth in the Western Conference, just shy of their first playoff appearance since the 2008-2009 season.
