Todd McClellan announced that Sharks Goalie Antti Niemi will not play in the Sharks' exhibition finale on Saturday night, Brodie Brazil reported via twitter (@brodiebrazilCSN).

Niemi was able to remain on the ice for the duration of practice, his longest outing yet since undergoing surgery to remove a cyst on his leg at the beginning of training camp.

If Niemi doesn't feel any lingering pain in the coming days, he will be the Sharks' starting goaltender when the Sharks open the regular season on Saturday October 8.

If he is not ready, Thomas Greiss will start in net, as the Sharks' presumed backup goalie, Antero Niittymaki, will miss the next 12 weeks following a procedure for a lower body injury.

Following the season opener on October 8, they don't play again until October 14, giving Niemi ample time to fully recover.
