Sharks forward Bracken Kearns has been placed on waivers.
Kearns, 32, has three goals and one assist for four points and six penalty minutes in 22 games with the Sharks this season. The forward will likely be reassigned to Worcester if he clears.
Raffi Torres (right knee surgery) and Logan Couture (right hand) are both expected to be activated from long term injured reserve in time for the Sharks’ next game in Philadelphia on Feb. 27. There was simply no room for Kearns.
"When you start bringing people back, Raffi and Logan, Adam Burish returning [before the Olympic break], it becomes a situation where not everybody can be on the roster. We’re only allowed so much space and so many spots," Todd McLellan said.
"Bracken is the unlucky one right now. I still consider him part of our team. I think he has the ability to come back and play a significant role for us. He’s done a good job, we just have to make some decisions at this point, and we’ve made them.”
